The Port of Seattle Commission approved Tuesday a deal to develop an 87-acre business park in Des Moines, south of Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, that could eventually provide an estimated 1,600 jobs.

The ground lease calls for Panattoni Development of California to construct up to 2 million square feet of commercial and light-industrial buildings suitable for tenants such as freight, avionics manufacturers and air cargo companies.

The business park will be developed in phases over seven years at an estimated cost of $100 million or more.
