As part of its quest to eliminate advantages that brick-and-mortar stores have over it, Amazon.com added filters to its site in Seattle and three other cities Thursday that let shoppers zero in on items available for same-day delivery.

The online retail giant introduced its “Get It Today” search filter in Los Angeles, Phoenix, San Francisco, as well as Seattle. Amazon said the filter will be available in eight other cities where same-day deilvery is available “soon.”

In Seattle, shoppers have until 12:15 p.m. to find an item available for same-day delivery in order to receive it by 9 p.m. Amazon Prime members will have to pay $5.99 per order, regardless of the number of items shipped. Shoppers who haven’t subscribed to Prime will have to pay a $9.98 fee for the first item and $0.99 for each additional item.

The company said the service would include “as many as a million eligible items,” all of which will be shipped from warehouses near each of the cities where the service is offered. To deliver the items, Amazon has contracted with local courier services. In Seattle, as well as San Francisco and Los Angeles, customers can also get same-day shipping from the company’s Amazon Fresh grocery service, including many nonfood items.

Information in this article, originally published May 1, 2014, was corrected later that day. A previous version of this story incorrectly stated that Amazon had just launched its same-day delivery service in Seattle. It actually launched such a service in Seattle in 2009.
