PETERBOROUGH, N.H. —

An explosion resulting in injuries has been reported at a ball bearing plant in the southwestern New Hampshire town of Peterborough.

The fire department in nearby Jaffrey says on Twitter crews have been dispatched to the New Hampshire Ball Bearing plant.

Television station WMUR reports (http://bit.ly/1bGa1WE) police are advising drivers to avoid Route 202 through Peterborough following Monday afternoon's explosion.

Firefighting crews from more than a dozen towns are heading to the scene.

Eight ambulances have been called to the area. Local hospitals have been asked to prepare for patients who may have been exposed to hazardous materials. Keene Fire Department's hazardous-materials team is responding to the scene.
