Joblessness in November was lower than a year ago in 32 of Washington state’s 39 counties, according to Employment Security Department data released Monday.

King County’s unemployment rate was 5 percent last month, down from 5.5 percent in October and 6.2 percent in November 2012. Pierce County’s rate stayed put at 7.4 percent, but that was down from 8 percent a year ago.

In Snohomish County, joblessness declined three-tenths of a percentage point over the month to 5.7 percent, well below its year-ago rate of 6.8 percent.

The county unemployment data are not seasonally adjusted for month-to-month fluctuations and are based on a household survey.

Washington had four counties with year-over-year increases in unemployment and three counties with no changes. The four with increases were Franklin, at 9.7 percent; Ferry, 11 percent; Grant, 8.9 percent; and Yakima, 8.9 percent. The three with no year-over-year changes were Adams, at 8.6 percent; Douglas, 6.7 percent; and Skamania, 9.0 percent.

As previously reported, the state’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 6.8 percent last month, down from 7 percent in October.
