How the Dow Jones industrial average fared

The Dow Jones industrial average edged higher to gain for an eighth straight day, logging its longest streak in more than two years. The Standard & Poor's 500 index edged lower, ending its streak of gains at seven.

The Dow Jones industrial average edged higher to gain for an eighth straight day, logging its longest streak in more than two years. The Standard & Poor's 500 index edged lower, ending its streak of gains at seven.

The Dow rose 2.77 points, or 0.02 percent, to close at 14,450.06.

The S&P 500 fell 3.74 points, or 0.2 percent, to close at 1,552.48.

The Nasdaq composite fell 10.55 points, or 0.3 percent, to 3,242.32.

For the week:

The Dow is up 52.99, or 0.4 percent.

The S &P 500 is up 1.30, or 0.08 percent.

The Nasdaq is down 2.05, or 0.06 percent.

For the year:

The Dow is up 1,345.92, or 10.3 percent.

The S&P 500 is up 126.29, or 8.9 percent.

The Nasdaq composite is up 222.81, or 7.4 percent.
