Washington’s jobs recovery is concentrated overwhelmingly in the central Puget Sound region, according to full county-by-county employment data released Tuesday by the state Employment Security Department.

King and Snohomish counties, which together have nearly 44 percent of the state’s labor force, had the second- and third-lowest unemployment rates in January — 6.3 percent and 7.1 percent, respectively.

The new data, which are not adjusted to reflect seasonal variations, show Whitman County with the state’s lowest jobless rate, 5.8 percent; Ferry County had the highest, at 14.9 percent.

In 18 of Washington’s 39 counties, unemployment in January was above 11 percent.
