JOBS, JOBS, JOBS: A burst of hiring in February pushed stocks higher on Wall Street. The Dow Jones industrial average surpassed its previous record Tuesday. On Friday it rose above 14,400 for the first time before easing back a bit to close up 0.5 percent at 14,397.

PUNCH BOWL: Some analysts mused that good news for the economy might ultimately be bad news for stocks should the Federal Reserve start thinking about ending its stimulus program. The central bank is buying $85 billion of bonds every month to help keep interest rates low.

TAX SEASON: H&R Block was the biggest gainer in the Standard & Poor's 500 index. The tax preparation company's fiscal third-quarter loss widened after a late start to the tax season, but the company is bullish that it's poised to gain market share.
