Euro jumps to 10-month high vs dollar

The euro hit a 10-month high against the dollar Monday after last week's decision by the European Central Bank to leave its benchmark interest rate unchanged.

NEW YORK —

The euro hit a 10-month high against the dollar Monday after last week's decision by the European Central Bank to leave its benchmark interest rate unchanged.

ECB President Mario Draghi also said late last week that he expects the economy in the 17-country bloc that uses the euro to recover slightly in late 2013.

The euro rose to $1.3378 in late trading Monday from $1.3338 late Friday. The euro rose as high as $1.3403 earlier, its highest point against the dollar since Feb. 29.

In other trading, the British pound fell to $1.6082 from $1.6121.

The dollar rose to 89.41 Japanese yen from 89.20 Japanese yen and to 0.9217 Swiss franc from 0.9130 Swiss franc.

The dollar slipped to 98.38 Swiss franc from 98.41 Swiss franc.
