NEW YORK —

Wall Street stock futures are subdued ahead of a speech on monetary policy from Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke.

Dow futures are up 6 points to 13,439. The broader Standard & Poor's 500 futures are up 1 point to 1,468. Nasdaq futures are down 10 points to 2,734.

Bernanke is expected to speak in a question-and-answer session in Ann Arbor, Mich., beginning at 4 p.m. ET, just as the stock markets close.

Also on tap this week are earnings reports from major U.S. banks, including JPMorgan Chase & Co., Bank of America Corp. and Goldman Sachs Group Inc.

European markets rose by midday on optimism that the worst of the uncertainty from the European fiscal crisis and U.S. fiscal cliff saga is over.

U.S. stocks hit a five-year high last Thursday.
