How the major US stock indexes fared Friday

U.S. stock indexes were mixed Friday, as company earnings reports started to come in. The Standard & Poor's 500 index dipped slightly below its highest close in five years, which it reached the day before.

U.S. stock indexes were mixed Friday, as company earnings reports started to come in. The Standard & Poor's 500 index dipped slightly below its highest close in five years, which it reached the day before.

The Dow Jones industrial average rose 17.21 points, or 0.1 percent, to 13,488.43

The Standard & Poor's 500 fell 0.07, leaving it little changed at 1,472.05.

The Nasdaq composite index rose 3.88, or 0.1 percent, to 3,125.63.

For the week:

The Dow is up 53.22 points, or 0.4 percent.

The S&P 500 is up 5.58, or 0.4 percent.

The Nasdaq is up 23.97, or 0.8 percent.

For the year:

The Dow is up 384.29 points, or 2.9 percent.

The S&P 500 is up 45.86, or 3.2 percent.

The Nasdaq is up 106.12, or 3.5 percent.
