How the major US stock indexes fared Wednesday

U.S. stocks rose Wednesday, boosted by pockets of encouraging company news. Boeing was the biggest gainer of the stocks on the Dow, rising 3.5 percent after falling for two days because of safety concerns about its 787 Dreamliner.

U.S. stocks rose Wednesday, boosted by pockets of encouraging company news. Boeing was the biggest gainer of the stocks on the Dow, rising 3.5 percent after falling for two days because of safety concerns about its 787 Dreamliner.

The Dow Jones industrial average rose 61.66 points, or 0.5 percent, to 13,390.51.

The Standard & Poor's 500 rose 3.87, or 0.3 percent, to 1,461.02.

The Nasdaq composite index rose 14, or 0.5 percent, to 3,105.81.

For the week:

The Dow is down 44.70 points, or 0.3 percent.

The S&P 500 is down 5.45, or 0.4 percent.

The Nasdaq is up 4.15, or 0.1 percent.

For the year:

The Dow is up 286.37 points, or 2.2 percent.

The S&P 500 is up 34.83, or 2.4 percent.

The Nasdaq is up 86.30, or 2.9 percent.
