Lynn Gust, a longtime Fred Meyer employee who began his career as a parcel clerk more than 40 years ago, has been tapped as the company’s new president.

Gust, 59, had been senior vice president of operations at Portland-based Fred Meyer Stores since 2011.

He replaces Mike Ellis, who recently was promoted to senior vice president at corporate parent Kroger in Cincinnati.

“Lynn’s long history with Fred Meyer and deep knowledge of our business will serve our customers well,” Kroger president Rodney McMullen said in a statement.

Fred Meyer operates 133 stores in Alaska, Idaho, Oregon and Washington.
