DELAYED: Only 80.2 percent of flights operated by U.S. airlines arrived on time during October, down from 85.5 percent in October 2011, according to the federal government.

GROUNDED: Superstorm Sandy, which battered the Northeast in late October, was blamed for more than 12,000 canceled flights, or about 83 percent of the total for the month.

GRIPES: About 1,300 passengers filed reports of poor airline service, up 50 percent from a year ago. Southwest Airlines had the lowest complaint rate, United Airlines had the highest.
