Poland's national airline LOT is welcoming its first Boeing 787 "Dreamliner" into its fleet, becoming the first European carrier to get the U.S. aircraft producer's newest plane.
However, plans for the plane to land in Warsaw escorted by four F-16 fighter jets were scrapped due to heavy fog. The plane has been praised for state-of-the art design making it more fuel efficient and comfortable for passengers than an earlier generation of aircraft.
Many in this ex-communist country are celebrating the arrival of the first of eight Dreamliners as another symbolic step in the country's speedy economic development.
The tabloid Fakt declared the plane a "Technical miracle from America" in a front-page headline Thursday. "In Europe only Poland has such a super modern airplane," the paper boasted.
