THE HARDEST PART: The stock market is waiting for a presidential winner like everyone else. Stocks rose modestly a day before the vote. The Dow Jones industrial average added 19 points.

EUROPE FRETS: Renewed concern about economic problems in Greece, combined with uncertainty about the U.S. election, drove stocks lower in Germany and France.

DISCONNECT: Time Warner Cable dropped more than 6 percent after a disappointing earnings report. The company said it lost 140,000 cable subscribers over the past three months.
