Oil ends above $96 a barrel

The price of oil rose Tuesday as Hurricane Isaac gathered strength on its way into the heart of the Gulf of Mexico's oil and refinery operations.

The price of oil rose Tuesday as Hurricane Isaac gathered strength on its way into the heart of the Gulf of Mexico's oil and refinery operations.

On the New York Mercantile Exchange:

Benchmark crude rose 86 cents to finish at $96.33 per barrel.

Gasoline fell 2.87 cents to end at $3.1261 a gallon.

Heating oil rose less than a cent to finish at $3.1203 a gallon.

Natural gas fell 3.9 cents to end at $2.6140 per 1,000 cubic feet.

On the ICE Futures exchange in London:

Brent crude rose 32 cents to finish the day at $112.58 per barrel.
