How the major US stock indexes fared on Tuesday
Stocks fell for the fourth straight day Tuesday following a profit slump at technology companies and a steep decline in oil prices, which sent energy stocks sharply lower.

Stocks fell for the fourth straight day Tuesday following a profit slump at technology companies and a steep decline in oil prices, which sent energy stocks sharply lower.
The Dow Jones industrial average fell 83.17 points, or 0.7 percent, to 12,653.12.
The Standard & Poor's 500 fell 10.99 points, or 0.8 percent, to 1,341.47.
The Nasdaq composite index fell 29.44 points, or 1 percent, to 2,902.33.
For the week:
The Dow is down 119.35, or 0.9 percent.
The S&P 500 is down 13.21, or 1 percent.
The Nasdaq is down 35, or 1.2 percent.
For the year:
The Dow is up 435.56, or 3.6 percent.
The S&P 500 is up 83.87, or 6.7 percent.
The Nasdaq is up 297.18, or 11.4 percent.
