Subject: Opening a new chapter
Earlier today, Jim Albaugh announced his retirement from Boeing after 37 years of service. I have had the privilege of working closely with Jim during the last few years and appreciate the leadership he provided our team as we worked to overcome our development program challenges on the 787 and 747-8, stepped up production rates on our existing programs, and advanced our product strategy with the successful launch of the 737 MAX. We are stronger today thanks to Jim's contributions, and I am honored — and excited — to succeed him as leader of Boeing Commercial Airplanes.
You are an incredibly talented, hard-working, and customer-focused team. Because of you, we have a bright future. Our achievements in innovation over the past few years are truly historic. They have positioned us for an extended period of growth and renewed industry leadership. And yet, there is much more work to be done to realize our full potential — especially as we adjust to increased global competition and uncertain economic conditions. As I see it, our job going forward together in the near term is to stay the course on the product and services strategies that have resulted in our record backlog, and to turn up the gain on performance and execution to ensure we meet our commitments, fund investments in new products and technologies, and strengthen our competitiveness for the long haul.
We're all part of a long and distinguished history. Those who came before us achieved greatness. Your passion and commitment will be responsible for extending that legacy as we continue to do remarkable things. I'm convinced that together we will succeed for our customers, our company, and for one another.
Ray
