European stimulus pushes oil higher

Europe's latest attempt to revive its economy and a tropical storm brewing in the Gulf of Mexico drove the price of oil 2 percent higher Friday.

NEW YORK —

Europe's latest attempt to revive its economy and a tropical storm brewing in the Gulf of Mexico drove the price of oil 2 percent higher Friday.

On the New York Mercantile Exchange:

Crude added $1.56 to finish at $79.76 per barrel.

Gasoline rose 1.98 cents to end at $2.5699 per gallon.

Heating oil added nearly a penny to finish at $2.5337 per gallon.

Natural gas rose by 4.3 cents to end the week at $2.6250 per 1,000 cubic feet.

On the ICE Futures exchange in London:

Brent crude climbed $1.75 to end at $90.98 a barrel.
