Second liquor-store auction set
Top bidders for the rights to 18 of 167 state liquor stores did not pay the posted bid in an online auction held April 20 by the Liquor Control Board.
Seattle Times business reporter
The Washington State Liquor Control Board will host a second auction May 24 for rights to run 18 state liquor stores.
The Liquor Control Board completed an online auction April 20 for rights to 167 stores, but top bidders for 18 of them did not pay their posted bid.
One of the stores, at 7048 Pacific Ave. in Tacoma, received the highest bid in the online auction: $750,100 by Ramesh S. Rabadia.
Bidders on 149 stores in the online auction have paid $25.9 million in bids, plus about $1 million in fees to the state.
All the stores measure less than 10,000 square feet. They are among fewer than 400 stores in the state exempted from the liquor privatization law's requirement that only stores measuring at least 10,000 square feet can sell hard liquor beginning June 1.
The second auction will be May 24 at the Liquor Control Board's distribution center at 4401 East Marginal Way S. in Seattle. Registration begins at 9 a.m., and live bids begin at 10 a.m.
