PRICE MIX: Commodity prices were mixed after U.S. hiring slowed in April for a second consecutive month. Oil, silver and copper fell. Gold, silver, platinum, corn and soybeans rose.

ECONOMIC TREMORS: Europe is struggling with financial problems. Growth in slowing in China and the U.S. economy is weakening. That could point to less demand for raw materials, such as oil, copper and agricultural products.

FIELDS OF WHEAT: Wheat prices fell to the lowest level in nearly four months on expectations for a bumper crop in the United States. Supplies already are ample in the U.S. and globally.
