Labor Dept. grant to help idled Everett mill workers

The U.S. Department of Labor announced Thursday a $1.79 million grant to help about 570 workers laid off when the Kimberly-Clark paper mill in Everett closed.

The U.S. Department of Labor announced Thursday a $1.79 million grant to help about 570 workers who were laid off between Dec. 15 and March 31 as a result of the closure of the Kimberly-Clark paper mill in Everett.

The grant, which will pay for worker re-training and job-search services, goes to the state Employment Security Department, the federal agency said.
