ON THE ROAD AGAIN: Nissan is back, one year after an earthquake and tsunami in Japan ground halted production. The carmaker had record sales in 2011. Production at Toyota was back to near-normal levels too by September.

HONDA HOPPING: Honda had the toughest problems. It was hit by flooding in Thailand, which further disrupted production on top of the disaster in Japan. Most of Honda's global production is back at pre-disaster levels now.

YEN PAIN: Nissan's CEO says the strong yen is doing more damage to financial results than the disaster. Toyota and Honda also say the strong yen hurts.
