The Washington Athletic Club named former pro football player Chuck Nelson as its new president and CEO, replacing Jim Johnson, who is retiring after 15 years in that role.
Nelson, who will start Jan. 16, is a former executive director of the Boeing Classic PGA tournament at Snoqualmie Ridge and chief operating officer at Rigel Capital. He's also a director of the Seattle Sports Commission and Coastal Community Bank, and he sits on the community board at Regence BlueShield of Washington.
But he is best known for his football career with the University of Washington and the Los Angeles Rams, the Buffalo Bills and the Minnesota Vikings in the 1980s.
Nelson's most recent job was as vice president of the business and technology consulting firm Sila Solutions.
The club at Sixth Avenue and Union Street in downtown Seattle opened in 1930. It added four stories in the 1950s and another eight stories less than 20 years later.
It now has more than 13,000 members and has been designated a city landmark by the Seattle Landmarks Preservation Board.
