Jones Soda moving to Pioneer Square

Beverage company Jones Soda plans to relocate this summer from the South Lake Union neighborhood to Pioneer Square's historical district.

The company, known for wacky soda flavors like Candy Corn, Pineapple Upside Down and limited edition Perspiration, has a lease that expires in August. Its new 9,500-square-foot space, across from Qwest Field and the Event Center, is on the first floor of the Palmer Court Building. The company said it has signed a five-year lease with an option for renewal. It moved to Seattle from Vancouver in 2000.

Back in 2007, the company fought for its survival after it posted a loss of some $11.6 million and then eliminated nearly 40 percent of its work force in 2008. Chief executive William Meissner said the move is a fresh start for the company.

Meissner also noted that with the new location, the soda brand will have an opportunity to offer sample taste tests to pedestrians.
