AUTO SHOW: The North American International Auto Show in Detroit opens to the public Jan. 15. Car makers will unveil new products and gauge the reaction of hundreds of thousands of visitors.
WHAT'S HOT: Small, fuel-efficient cars are the big story. Among the products to be introduced are a Toyota Prius wagon, a new Volkswagen sedan, a pint-sized minivan from Ford and the new Honda Civic.
WHAT'S NEXT: U.S. auto sales are expected to rise as the economy improves. But gas prices also will rise, so automakers expect buyers to migrate to smaller cars.
