Miller-Pollard furniture at U Village to close
After 60 years in business, the furniture store Miller-Pollard at University Village will go out of business Jan. 31.
After 60 years in business, the furniture store Miller-Pollard at University Village will go out of business Jan. 31.
"We're moving forward and moving on," said Cope Miller, whose father opened the store on University Way Northeast in 1951. It moved to its current location 13 years ago.
Miller is not sure what he will do next and said his business partner, Sally Henry, plans to retire.
The store employs about 25 people, many of them part time. Its liquidation sale began Dec. 26, and already the store is almost empty. Some of its main lines of furniture included Lee Industries, Hickory Chair and Wright Table.
Miller declined to say whether the decision not to renew the store's lease was his and Henry's, or University Village's.
