RETAIL REBOUND: In another sign that the economy is improving, the Commerce Department said that retail spending rose for the fifth straight month in November.

JOBS AROUND THE CORNER: A survey of CEOs of big U.S. companies showed that 45 percent say they expect their companies to add more workers over the next six months.

DOW HITS NEW HIGH: The Dow Jones industrial average rose 48 points to 11,476.54, a new high for the year. It reached its previous high of 1,444.08 on Nov. 5th. Every major market index has reached a new yearly high this week.
