The Associated Press

NOVEMBER'S SLAM DUNK: Bargains helped drive shoppers to stores last month, delivering a 5.8 percent increase in revenue at stores open at least a year, according to the International Council of Shopping Centers.

THE TREND: It's the second-biggest monthly percentage increase since September 2006, when revenue growth was 6.2 percent.

WHY IT MATTERS: The strong start to holiday shopping provides more hope for the rest of the season and is an encouraging sign for the economy.
