Automakers cut carbon dioxide faster in EU
Environmental activists say car makers are cutting their fleets' carbon dioxide emissions faster than expected.

Environmental activists say car makers are cutting their fleets' carbon dioxide emissions faster than expected.
That means they are likely to reach European Union pollution targets ahead of time.
A study released Thursday says cars sold in the EU in 2009 on average emitted 5.1 percent less C02 than cars sold in 2008.
Brussels-based Transportation & Environment says that is the steepest annual reduction in emissions since the EU started collecting data 10 years ago.
Japan's Toyota cut emissions by 10 percent, faster than any other car maker.
Car makers face EU fines if, by 2015, they fail to cut their fleets' average CO2 emissions by 35 percent from 1995 levels.
