Gulf Air orders eight Boeing 787s

Boeing's Web site today shows the first new 787 order of the year, an eight-plane purchase by Gulf Air.

Seattle Times aerospace reporter

After losing 32 Dreamliner orders this year to cancelations, Boeing's order Web site today shows the first new 787 order of the year.

Gulf Air of Bahrain has exercised 8 options for 787-8s. That's worth $1.3 billion at list prices; assuming standard discounts based on market data from airplane valuation firm Avitas, the actual purchase price is around $880 million.

Gulf Air ordered 16 Dreamliners back in January 2008 with options to buy the additional 8.
