U.S. News & World Report magazine moves to biweekly schedule

U.S. News & World Report magazine will move to a biweekly schedule next year and redesign its pages as it struggles to hold on to advertising dollars with more people getting news and information from the Web.
The magazine, which is owned by the real estate magnate Mortimer Zuckerman, is also lowering the circulation it guarantees advertisers from 2 million to 1.5 million as of July. Time magazine has also undergone a redesign and lowered its circulation base.
U.S. News already reduced its frequency from 46 issues in 2007 to 32 this year, and will adopt the biweekly schedule next year, a spokeswoman said.
The changes come as U.S. News, Time and Newsweek all struggle with lower advertising as more readers get their news from other sources including the Internet.
U.S. News saw a 37.5 percent decline in advertising pages in the first three months of the year, according to the Publishers Information Bureau, while Time's pages fell 17.8 percent and Newsweek's fell 13.9 percent. Time is owned by Time Warner Inc., while Newsweek is owned by The Washington Post Co.
