A critical look at tech and business issues. Boeing nets 57 new orders, including big VIP planesBy Seattle Times staff Boeing added firm orders for 57 commercial jets, worth some $7.5 billion at list prices, to its sales tally Thursday. The new orders included two VIP passenger versions of the new 747-8 derivative of the jumbo jet and also a VIP version of the mid-size new 787. The tally also included two 737 Boeing Business Jets, which are standard VIP jets. The 747-8 passenger jet is listed at $278 million. Boeing does not identify its customers in VIP sales. Thursday's tally also included new orders from unidentified customers for 14 of the $280 million freighter version of the 747-8 plus four 767 jets. The balance of the additional orders came from a previously reported sale of 32 737s to Ireland's Ryanair and another two 737 sales to another unidentified customer.
