The Associated Press

Amazon.com Inc. said today it has acquired privately held fashion retailer Shopbop.com, and plans to continue to run the site separately.

Terms of the sale were not disclosed.

In a statement, Amazon.com said Shopbop.com, which specializes in high-end fashion, would maintain its base in Madison, Wis. Amazon.com's also sells clothing through its main Web site. The company said Shopbop.com is meant to complement that business.

The Seattle-based Internet retailer, which started business selling primarily books, has since expanded its offerings to include everything from food to jewelry.

Amazon.com shares were up 15 cents, or less than 1/2 percent, to $38.50 in midday trading Monday on the Nasdaq Stock Market.
