An Everest memoir, a how-to guide to treehouses

New in Northwest books: Ed Viesturs’ memoirs of Mount Everest in paperback; treehouses by Pete Nelson; an update of the Esther story by Kate Breslin, and a new edition of Carlos Bulosan’s memoir.

“The Mountain: My Time on Everest” by Ed Viesturs, with David Roberts (Touchstone, $15.99). New in paperback, world-class climber Viesturs describes harrowing and inspiring experiences he has had on the world’s highest mountain, which he has summitted seven times. For many years a Bainbridge Island resident, Viesturs lives in Ketchum, Idaho with his family, according to the book jacket.

“Be in a Treehouse” by Pete Nelson (Abrams, $37.50). Treehouse designer and builder Nelson produces a how-to book. Using 21 of his own treehouses as case studies, Nelson explains techniques and hardware designed to make the structures safe. He lives in Fall City.

“For Such a Time” by Kate Breslin (Bethany House, $14.99). Breslin’s debut novel is a historical romance and a retelling of the biblical Book of Esther, set at a transit camp for World War II prisoners bound for Auschwitz. She lives in Seattle.

“America is in the Heart” by Carlos Bulosan (University of Washington Press, $18.95). First published in 1946, this memoir by well-known Filipino novelist and poet Bulosan tells the path that led him from itinerant farmworker to union organizer in Washington and California.
