Hanssen tells how he and his friends coped with their close quarters and harsh conditions in their 72-day quest.

“Stubble Field” by Paul Hunter (Silverfish Review Press, $14.95). Seattleite Paul Hunter’s fourth collection of work is set in the American Midwest, with small farms and communities as the focus.

“Animals Welcome: A Life of Reading, Writing, and Rescuing” by Peg Kehret (Dutton, $16.99). For ages 10-12: In this memoir, the popular Wilkeson-based author shares stories about animals she has rescued and cared for on her 10-acre wildlife sanctuary near Mount Rainier.
