Au Revoir a Paris - and a glimpse of the original Ryan Air
Posted by Dominic Gates
My Air Show is over. Thanks for reading. One last photo of Le Bourget as I sign off.
The shot below shows a couple of rockets from the European Space Agency on the right, and an old Air France 747 on the left, all on display outside the Musee de l'Air et de l'Espace on the edge of the Le Bourget airfield.
And that old plane with an 8 on it is a "new Ryan."
T. Claude Ryan is best known for building The Spirit of St. Louis, the plane that Charles Lindbergh flew solo across the Atlantic in 1927.
In the 1920s, Ryan had established the Ryan Flying School in San Diego, Calif. In 1934, he formed the new Ryan Aeronautical Company, and this plane at Le Bourget is one of the "New Ryans" that he built there in San Diego.

Saturday, I fly to London, then Ireland to visit family. I'll be back in Seattle next week, June 28. Thankfully, I'm not flying the modern Ryanair.
