Broken Budgets
Over the past five months, statehouse reporters for The Associated Press have collected a wide range of budget and fiscal data to illustrate the overall financial picture of state governments across the country. The resulting interactive includes detailed and historical budget figures, pension and retiree health care obligations, funding for public schools, higher education and prisons, bond debt and federal stimulus spending, among other information.
But this interactive represents more than just a snapshot in time. The underlying information will be updated throughout the year, and new data added as needed, providing an opportunity for AP members to get fresh, real-time information about budgeting in the 50 states.
