Pittsburgh Steelers receiver Mike Wallace ends holdout | NFL

PITTSBURGH — Mike Wallace sat in his usual spot in the corner of the Pittsburgh Steelers' locker room and decided it was time to hold court.

It had been awhile for the leader of the self-proclaimed "Young Money Family."

The Pro Bowl wide receiver posed for cameras alongside teammates Antonio Brown, Chris Rainey, Jerricho Cotchery and Ike Taylor while cracking jokes, business as usual for one of the league's fastest playmakers.

It was almost as if Wallace's lengthy holdout — one that finally came to an end Tuesday — never happened. Maybe because that is the way Wallace prefers it.

"I'm not dwelling on the past," he said. "I have no regrets."

Wallace also doesn't have the long-term deal he covets.

Instead, the 26-year-old restricted free agent will play under the one-year, $2.7 million tender offered by the Steelers and hope something lengthier gets worked out before the regular season begins. As a rule, the Steelers don't negotiate contracts during the season.

Wallace caught a career-high 72 passes for 1,193 yards and eight touchdowns last season.

Cooley is released

ASHBURN, Va. — Washington cut ties with one of the most productive and popular players in its history when it released tight end Chris Cooley.

Cooley, 30, said an emotional goodbye to the Redskins after eight seasons. The two-time Pro Bowl selection carved a niche as a beloved player who squeezed the most out of his ability.

"It's been awesome," said Cooley, fighting back tears. "I've been very, very fortunate to play for a franchise that has embraced me and a fan base that has embraced me the way that they have."

• A judge ordered ex-Chicago Bears receiver Sam Hurd, 27, to remain jailed as he awaits his October drug trial, revoking his bond for failed drug tests and allegedly trying to buy drugs.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Jeff Kaplan cited an interview — and corroborating phone records — in which Hurd's cousin, Jesse Tyrone Chavful, told federal investigators the 200 pounds of marijuana and 5 kilograms of cocaine Chavful was arrested for attempting to buy were intended for Hurd.

• Buffalo quarterback Tarvaris Jackson, acquired from the Seahawks in a trade this week, is expected to play the fourth quarter of Thursday's exhibition game at Detroit.

• The Atlanta Falcons released backup quarterback Chris Redman to sign quarterback Luke McCown, previously with Jacksonville.
