With heart and determination, horses run for our money

Sally Steiner and her husband, Joe, have operated the Quarter Chute Cafe since Emerald Downs opened in 1996. Steiner, considered the “den mother” of the track, keeps a poster board covered in photos of jockeys, trainers, owners and their families next to the cash register. “Birthdays, if someone's passed away . . . you name it, she'll know,” says Vince Bruun, director of media relations.
