With heart and determination, horses run for our money

Horses fly out of the starting gate in front of the grandstand as they begin a mile-long race July 6. During mile-long races, the starting gate is placed near the finish, allowing horses to run a full oval around the track. Most races are about 6 furlongs, ¾ of a mile.
