Back to nature: Last chunk of Elwha dams out in September

East of the Elwha River’s mouth, scientist Ian Miller stands on the beach where sand and soft sediment transported by the river has covered vast areas of bare cobble since dam removal began in 2011. Restoration of the beach is part of a gradual return of the Elwha watershed to a more healthy, natural condition.
