Architect couple turn a ‘total dump’ into a modern charmer

It was Jeremy’s idea to carve out the living-room ceiling, making the room appear more grand. The fireplace is original Roman brick. The Imhoffs figure they put $150,000 into the project, doing most of the work themselves and trading for services. The credenza, by Nathan Hartman of Kerf Design, holds toys and the TV.
