Rudolph’s last stand: Where have all the reindeer gone?

Like other ungulates, mountain caribou crave salts that are often missing in their diet. They are irresistibly drawn to salted highways, often putting themselves and the passing traffic on a collision course. It’s a particular problem here, on Canada Highway 3, which bisects the South Selkirks herd’s home range.
