In making art, Haida culture is revived

Davidson carved this cedar totem pole in 1969 as a gift to the elders of his hometown. During the pole raising, the first in seven decades, his father, Claude, right foreground, presided. “There was so much enthusiasm; people wanted to be on the ropes to be able to pull it up,” Davidson recalls.
