A new gardening strategy: lighten up

Dixon’s favorite low-maintenance plants are among those in this display: Beesia for its glossy, heart-shaped, deep-green leaves, golden Japanese forest grass and our evergreen native fern (Polystichum munitum), all of which need little care besides cutting back once a year. The black mondo grass holds its looks year ‘round, and the Sarcococca in the back left corner is a sturdy little evergreen with fragrant winter flowers.
