Utilities scramble to fix water main near U-Village

Crews respond to a water-main break that produced a geyser at University Village on Tuesday afternoon. Part of the shopping center’s parking lot was flooded, the Northeast 45th Street Viaduct was closed and nearby homes were without water. The sudden drop in water pressure on the University of Washington campus triggered fire alarms, prompting some students to evacuate.
