WEST BENGAL, INDIA: Local nonprofit Landesa teaches girls in impoverished villages of India how to garden small plots of land, in hopes they can help their families and, for some, forestall early marriage. Mamata Barui, 16, above, hopes her garden will produce enough money to stop her father from marrying her off.
