Accelerating her education Elaine Melnik, 21, used a dual-credit strategy in high school, spending her junior and senior years of high school at Lake Washington Institute of Technology in Kirkland. The free program netted her a high-school diploma and an associate degree at 18. She then joined an online Central Washington University program, earning her bachelor’s degree two years later. Melnik is now working on her master’s degree at Seattle Pacific while working full time as an IT analyst for a law firm.
