Oscar-nominated short documentaries unspool

Miyoshi Umeki and Red Buttons hug each other with their Oscars at a past Academy Awards ceremony. For their roles in “Sayonara,” Umeki won the best-supporting-actress award and Buttons, best supporting actor. The film is being shown Sunday at the Japanese Culture & Community Center of Washington.
